Dear Family and Friends
When Scott was born in December, Joe and I made the uneducated decision to allow the hospital to care of Scott's tiny body. This is a decision that has been very hard to deal with since that time. About six weeks ago I wrote a letter to the hospital explaining some of my concerns with the lack of information and support I received while in the hospital. Two or three weeks ago Joe and I decided we would like to purchase burial plots for the two of us and we would place a headstone for Scott on one of the plots. This week, Tuesday, I received a letter from the hospital in response to my letter. One thing the letter said was that they contacted the gentleman who does the cremations for them, and he still had the remains of Scott. They gave me his name and number and I called him. He was very kind and said he has been dealing with this for long enough that he knows often times parents desire to have their baby back, so he keeps them in case they call. He also said he is continually taking to the hospital trying to get them to give parents more information. Yesterday he delivered Scott's remains to us.
We will be having a memorial service next Thursday to dedicate the grave and bury Scott's remains. We would love to have anyone who would like to participate in this special ceremony with us.

Ups and Downs
Yesterday marked seven months since Scott was born. Oh how I wish he could have stayed here on Earth with us. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my precious little angel baby. As you can imagine there have been a lot of ups and downs in the last seven months. Thankfully I have Hayden, who brings so much joy into my life.
I have the molds of Scott on the shelf in the family room. Hayden loves to hold them. A few weeks ago Hayden began saying Scott. It sounds more like "A-dot." It is adorable. Last Friday Hayden walked over to the shelf, put his hands out and said, "A-dot" to show me he wanted to hold the molds. It makes me so happy that even though Scott isn't with us he is still part of our family and Hayden is learning about him. That was a big "UP" for me.
Unfortunately not everything is an "UP." Friday afternoon I was reading blogs. Sarah (her baby girl, Savannah, was stillborn in Feb.) had a link on her blog to a family whose baby was still born a few weeks ago. It is so heartbreaking to me to know that there are so many families dealing with this very difficult situation. I bawled for so long on Friday, partly because of the sadness I feel because Scott isn't here but partly because of the sorrow I feel for this family as well.
Saturday I was shopping and Wal-Mart and I saw someone that looked familiar, but I couldn't place him. As I was standing by the door he had walked out and walked back in to come talk to me. He said, "You're Allen's sister, right?" As soon as he said that I realized it was my brother's friend Andy. He told me Allen had told him about my baby and he just wanted to say he was sorry. It meant so much to me that he would go out of his way to do this.
So many people avoid talking about Scott. Please know that Scott is a part of my family. I love him so much and I love to talk about him. It is so much harder for me when people forget about him or think that I am pregnant with my second child. Please, if you ever are wondering something about me, Scott, the experience of losing a baby etc., please don't hesitate to ask. It does not make me uncomfortable. I love to talk about my baby.

Family Vacation
The Young Cousins
Jason, Hayden, and AnneWe then stopped at the Idaho Falls Temple. It was very beautiful. I love the view of the temple from the road where you can see the falls. They have a very nice visitor’s center that was recently rededicated. They allow the children to touch the Christus. Hayden really liked it. It is so neat to see little ones react to pictures and statues of Christ.

Our next stop was in Iona. That is where my Grandma Anderson grew up. We went to the cemetery there where her parents and brothers are buried. My family used to go to the cemeteries in Idaho every year for Memorial Day. It has been a number of years since I have been there. I was amazed to see all the growth that has taken place in that teeny town. I was glad to be able to show Joe and Hayden where my great grandparents are buried.
Next, we stopped in Rexburg to see the Rexburg Temple. It too, is very pretty. We just took a quick picture and got back on the road and went to the cabin.

Our cabin was about 20 minutes from Island Park. We went to there to play in the river one day. Of course Hayden loved the water. There were paddle boats and canoes available to rent by the hour. We decided to rent a paddle boat. After about 15 minutes of Joe and his dad pushing the stupid thing instead of paddling (the water is too shallow for the paddle boats) we traded it in for a canoe. The canoe was much more enjoyable. Hayden started to get a little fussy so I started sing Ten Little Indians. He was happy unless I stopped singing that song.

Hayden loved to sit on the stairs with Anne

As with our drive to Idaho, we decided to enjoy the drive home as well. We went up to West Yellowstone and drove through Yellowstone National Park. We had been in the park less than ten minutes and we started seeing lots of elk. We didn’t get to see any moose or bears but we saw deer and tons of elk. They are such beautiful creatures.
We stopped at some hot pots, Old Faithful, and some waterfalls. But mostly we just enjoyed the beautiful scenery. We headed don to the south entrance and made our way to the majestic Teton Mountains. We stopped at the dam and Hayden through rocks then we headed to Jenny Lake. We rode the boat across the lake and then hiked up to Hidden Falls. It is an easy hike but so beautiful. I have been there a few other times and really wanted to show it to Joe.

Aren't the Teton Mountains beautiful?

Motherhood
Isn't being a mother so wonderful? Don't you just love every part of it? There are so many things about it I love. I love when Hayden giggles uncontrollably. I love when Hayden gives me loves. It is so fun to watch him learn new words. When Hayden wants to cuddle and read books or sing it makes me happy.
BUT, I have to admit I don't love everything. This morning I put Hayden in the tub. I went into the other room for a minute. When I came back in the bathroom he had poop in the tub. So then I had to get him out, take out all of the toys, clean out the bathtub and then put him back in to bathe him. In the process of cleaning the tub I splashed bleach on my pants and ruined them.
As I was cleaning up the mess I started thinking that I couldn't wait for the day to be over and it was only 9:30 am. Do you ever have days like this? What do your kids do that make motherhood not quite so peachy?

Four Corners
Joe has never been to New Mexico so we decide to take a trip to Four Corners. I went there when I was really little and remember it being a fun vacation. When we got there I was a little disappointed at what was there. All that is there is a long line to wait in so walk up on the map and take a picture. There are a few little shops to purchase jewelry, t-shirts and a Navajo taco but that is the extent.
When we got back to Allen’s house Joe pulled up Four Corners on Google Earth and to our dismay the map is actually not even in the right spot. We had a good laugh about that.

Independence Day
We went to the parade. I was surprised at what a good parade it was. Hayden thought it was great, too, because of all the candy that was thrown. We had a great spot to watch parade from. Ashlie’s sisters own the theatre so we sat in front of the theatre and had free use of the bathroom (that is always a bonus for a pregnant woman).
Ashlie, Hayden, and Jake (neighbor) sharing candy. We had a barbeque at my brother’s house with Ashlie’s family. My favorite part was the delicious Dutch oven potatoes. Hayden's favorite part was the root beer and playing in the bin of drinks.

I promise it is just ROOT beer!
Hayden in staying cool in the bin of drinks and ice.
Playing in the pool.
While the kids were waiting for lunch they played in the yard. Allen filled up the kiddie pool but after a while they were tired of that and they began playing in the mud. After Hayden’s nap I decided to let Hayden join the fun. To my delight he didn’t like it so I didn’t have to clean him up covered in all that mud. The other kids looked like swamp monsters.

Callie, Avery, Lindzie, Whitnie, Hope, Preston. (Callie and Lindzie are my nieces)
Who needs a slip and slide when you have a mud hill?
My brother loves motorcycles. He has a sweet street bike and a great dirt bike. He kept asking Joe if he wanted to take it for a ride. Joe has declined multiple times. I’m not sure what changed but Joe decided to try it out. Allen gave him some tips and then Joe got on and attempted to ride. He killed it immediately and so Allen restarted it. He made it all the way down the street and back. I’m not quite sure what happened next but Joe was coming straight towards me so I jumped out of the way. He skidded along the drive way and came to a stop when he ran into the corner of the house, dumped the bike and hit his head on the brick. (No, he was not wearing a helmet.) Thankfully he was ok. He had an abrasion on the top of his head, a skinned knee, and tore of a chunk of skin on his wrists. At least there were no broken bones or gapping wounds.

Ouch! That hurt!
Good sport, sore knee!
Hayden was so tired I put him to bed before fireworks started. Callie is afraid of fireworks so we decided to stay home to watch the fireworks. We had a good view of the city’s firework show. I was very impressed with the fireworks. I was not expecting such a great show from small town Blanding.
It was so fun to spend the holiday with my family.Posted by Young Family at 3:56 PM 7 comments
